Why Sell Your Cartier to GoldTrust?
Cartier sits across two markets: watches and jewellery. Many Cartier pieces are valued on watch-market grounds (reference, condition, movement) and many are valued as jewellery pieces (precious metal weight, diamond content, setting quality). The best examples straddle both. Getting valuation right means reading both dimensions.
At GoldTrust we inspect the watch, identify the reference, assess the movement, weigh precious metal cases, and evaluate any diamonds or coloured stones present. The offer is built in front of you with every element explained. If it does not work, the watch stays with you, no fee. If it does, payment via instant EFT lands during the visit.
GoldTrust is a licensed second-hand goods dealer, registered high-value goods dealer, accountable institution, and Jewellery Council of South Africa member.
For Cartier specifically, jewellery-grade assessment of stones and metals is part of how we work.

What Affects Your Cartier’s Value
- Reference and variant. Tank Française is not Tank Américaine is not Tank Louis Cartier. Each has different generations, sizes, and metal variants.
- Case material. Steel, two-tone, yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, and platinum. Precious metal cases add meaningful intrinsic value.
- Gem content. Diamond-set bezels, cases, and bracelets are assessed for stone quality, count, and setting. The jewellery side of a Cartier often matters as much as the watch side.
- Movement. Manual wind, automatic, quartz. Quartz does not disqualify a Cartier; many classic references are quartz and remain valuable.
- Condition. Case geometry, dial originality, bracelet condition (Panthère bracelets in particular show wear patterns), crystal and crown condition.
- Vintage or discontinued status. Certain Paris-dialled, London-made, or discontinued references carry collector premiums.
- Box and papers. Cartier’s red presentation boxes and certificates add to the offer, particularly on precious metal and gem-set pieces.
Box, Papers, and Service History
A full set Cartier includes the watch, red presentation box, outer box, certificate, booklets, any extra links or straps, and purchase invoice if available. Full sets support the strongest offers, particularly on precious metal and gem-set pieces and on limited editions.
Watch-only Cartier is still sellable. The offer is lower than for a full set but the watch itself carries value, particularly on precious metal and vintage references.
Service records from Cartier boutiques or authorised service centres add confidence. Gem-set pieces also benefit from recent inspection records confirming stones are secure.
Preparing Your Cartier for Valuation
- Do not polish the case. Particularly important on precious metal cases where polishing removes gold or platinum.
- Do not clean gem settings aggressively. A soft dry cloth is fine; deeper cleaning is best left to us to avoid loosening stones.
- Bring the full set if you have it. Red presentation box, outer box, certificate, booklets, spare links.
- Note anything non-original or repaired. Replacement dial, crown, bracelet section, or stones.
- Bring ID. Valid SA ID or passport for FIC compliance.
- Book an appointment at one of our offices across Gauteng, including Sandton, Pretoria, Centurion, Boksburg, Cresta, and Bedfordview. We also serve Umhlanga, Cape Town, and George . Home visits available in many areas by arrangement.
Inspection, reference identification, precious metal and gem assessment where relevant, offer, and payment all happen in one appointment.
